APPROVED 10121/03 MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />WORK SESSION <br />September 15, 2003 <br />7:30 p.m. <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Work Session on Monday, <br />September 15, 2003 at the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Margaret W. Brown, Moses Carey <br />Jr., Alice M. Gordon, Stephen Halkiotis and Barry Jacobs <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill and S. Sean Borhanian <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County <br />Managers Rod Visser and Clerk to the Board Donna S. Baker (All other staff members <br />will be identified appropriately below). <br />NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE <br />PERMANENT AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. <br />Chair Brown explained that this was a work session, and that work sessions were strictly <br />for the County Commissioners to hear reports from the staff and to talk amongst <br />themselves and that there would not be an opportunity for public comment at this <br />particular meeting. <br />1. Change in BOCC Regular Meeting Schedule: <br />The Board considered making two changes to their regular meeting calendar for 2003 by <br />changing the locations of the two public hearings for the potential impacts of a passible <br />school merger as follows: <br />Thursday, October 16, 2003 Public hearing to be held at the Chapel Hill High <br />School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. <br />Thursday, October 23, 2003 Public hearing to be held at the Cedar Ridge High <br />School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Carey to <br />change the BOCC regular meeting schedule as stated above. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />2. An Analysis of Potential Impacts Resulting from a Possible Merger of <br />the Orange County Schools and the Chapel HiIllCarrboro City Schools <br />Chair Brawn said that this report would be available to anyone and it can be found at the <br />County's website at www.co.orange.nc.us. It is also available at the library. <br />County Manager Jahn Link made this PawerPoint presentation. He thanked the staff <br />who worked on this report and bath superintendents for their contributions to the report. <br />
