Commissioner Carey said that John Link said that he could cut a certain amount and he would
support cuts in the County and the schools, but not to the extent that Commissioner Jacobs has
proposed.
Commissioner Jacobs said that his proposal is to cut the Manager's recommended tax increase
by 1.5 cents (Manager's was 3 cents for increase in taxes}. He thinks that we ought to share
the pain and the tax increase should be as low as possible.
Chair Brown said that she agrees with Commissioner Halkiotis about not cutting funds to where
the infrastructure is undermined.
Discussion ensued about the Manager's recommended budget cuts
Commissioner Gordon does not want to cut capital tonight.
Commissioner Carey suggested cutting only $25,000 from IT replacement instead of $100,000
as proposed by Commissioner Jacobs. This would leave Commissioner Jacobs' cuts at
$390,000.
Commissioner Halkiotis said that once you embark on this Information Technology line you
have to keep it up and you have to support it.
John Link asked about the exact reductions in the general categories. The reductions are as
follows:
Emergency generators - $90,000
Equipment and Vehicles - $225,000
Information Technology - $25,000
Lake Michael - $50,000
John Link said that we are going to have to address the ambulances and the Sheriff's vehicles
eventually.
Commissioner Gordon said that she would only be in favor of $300,000 in cuts, considering the
items which would be cut.
The remaining County Commissioners agreed with $390,000 in cuts.
Commissioner Carey made reference to Commissioner Jacobs' proposal of cutting schools
current capital of $342,000. He does not want to cut it this much, but he agrees with cutting it
$275,000. Commissioner Halkiotis will only cut $150,000. Chair Brown agreed with $342,000.
Commissioner Gordon agreed with $150,000. Commissioner Jacobs said that the minimum
should be $195,000.
Chair Brown said that she would go down to $150,000. The school capital will be cut only
$ ~ 50, Q00.
Commissioner Jacobs said that there is $170,000 left in the Social Services Safety Net, and the
proposal is to add $200,000 to it. He thinks $70,000 could be cut and there would still be
$300,000 in the end.
