Commissioner Carey said that John Link said that he could cut a certain amount and he would <br />support cuts in the County and the schools, but not to the extent that Commissioner Jacobs has <br />proposed. <br />Commissioner Jacobs said that his proposal is to cut the Manager's recommended tax increase <br />by 1.5 cents (Manager's was 3 cents for increase in taxes}. He thinks that we ought to share <br />the pain and the tax increase should be as low as possible. <br />Chair Brown said that she agrees with Commissioner Halkiotis about not cutting funds to where <br />the infrastructure is undermined. <br />Discussion ensued about the Manager's recommended budget cuts <br />Commissioner Gordon does not want to cut capital tonight. <br />Commissioner Carey suggested cutting only $25,000 from IT replacement instead of $100,000 <br />as proposed by Commissioner Jacobs. This would leave Commissioner Jacobs' cuts at <br />$390,000. <br />Commissioner Halkiotis said that once you embark on this Information Technology line you <br />have to keep it up and you have to support it. <br />John Link asked about the exact reductions in the general categories. The reductions are as <br />follows: <br />Emergency generators - $90,000 <br />Equipment and Vehicles - $225,000 <br />Information Technology - $25,000 <br />Lake Michael - $50,000 <br />John Link said that we are going to have to address the ambulances and the Sheriff's vehicles <br />eventually. <br />Commissioner Gordon said that she would only be in favor of $300,000 in cuts, considering the <br />items which would be cut. <br />The remaining County Commissioners agreed with $390,000 in cuts. <br />Commissioner Carey made reference to Commissioner Jacobs' proposal of cutting schools <br />current capital of $342,000. He does not want to cut it this much, but he agrees with cutting it <br />$275,000. Commissioner Halkiotis will only cut $150,000. Chair Brown agreed with $342,000. <br />Commissioner Gordon agreed with $150,000. Commissioner Jacobs said that the minimum <br />should be $195,000. <br />Chair Brown said that she would go down to $150,000. The school capital will be cut only <br />$ ~ 50, Q00. <br />Commissioner Jacobs said that there is $170,000 left in the Social Services Safety Net, and the <br />proposal is to add $200,000 to it. He thinks $70,000 could be cut and there would still be <br />$300,000 in the end. <br />
