ORANGE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE STUDY <br />WHITE CROSS <br />1 The convnunity is tight knit and residents lrnow their neighbors as well as their <br />2 extended neighbors. There is a community recreation center that hosts various <br />3 community events, usually well attended by members of the White Cross <br />4 community and members of the fire department. It is located northeast of the <br />5 station, a little over a mile. <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 Department Membership <br />9 <br />10 The Department has 28 members, some of whom are begirming to "age ouY'. Their <br />11 members tend to stay on the Department; the average tenure is 14 years. There are <br />12 a few members that aze younger but additional youth would be helpful would be <br />13 classified as "junior" members. The Department does have women who are active <br />14 members. <br />15 <br />16 Many of the members aze trained and certified as medical first responders. This is <br />17 important as about 50% of the Depaztment's calls are medical in nature. All first <br />18 responders have radios to enable them to contact responding medical units. The <br />19 Department leadership perceives this program to be the most vi.sible and extremely <br />20 effective. <br />21 <br />22 The map on the following page provides an illustration of the location of the <br />23 Department's members.
