ORANGE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE STUDY <br />NORTH ORANGE COUNTY <br />RESCUE SQUAD <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 Captains and Lieutenants assist the Assistant Chiefs with equipment, apparatus and <br />5 stati.on maintenance, as well as other duties that may be assigned. <br />6 Squad History <br />7 <br />8 Founded in 1968, the Squad was the first emergency medical response organization in <br />9 Orange County. Originally, the squad provided basic life support and transport. <br />10 Within increasing, call volwne, the Squad hired paid personnel to cover during the <br />11 hours when volunteers were not typically available. <br />12 <br />13 As demand increased and EMS levels of service advanced, the North Orange County <br />14 Rescue Squad and the South Orange Covnty Rescue Squad merged into a single <br />15 entity (Orange EMS & Rescue Squad) to provide EMS response and transport to the <br />16 County. The organization struggled £inanci.ally and in managing its personnel and <br />17 services. Orange County assumed responsibility for EMS pazamedic level service <br />~ 73 <br />
