Spanish Language TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Outreach Grant Project Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Ordinance Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 336-227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve budget ordinance amendments and a grant project ordinance for fiscal <br /> year 2001-02. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Department of Social Services <br /> 1. The Department of Social Services has received notification from the State of additional <br /> funds totaling $7,080 for the LINKS program. These funds will be used to train foster care <br /> youth in job preparation, maintenance, daily living skills, and money management. These <br /> additional funds bring the current budget for this program to $31,780. This budget <br /> amendment provides for the receipt of these funds. There is no County match required for <br /> the receipt of these funds. (see attachment 1, column #1) <br /> Library <br /> 2. The Orange County Library has received a literacy grant totaling $1,000 from the Wal-Mart <br /> Foundation. These grant funds will be used to support the department's bilingual <br /> (Spanish/English) story time programs by paying a bilingual storyteller to promote reading <br /> and to provide books in Spanish and English for children and families. These programs are <br /> offered twice per month on Saturdays. There is no County match required for the receipt of <br /> these funds. (see attachment 1, column #2) <br /> 3. The Orange County Library has also received notification from the Triangle Community <br /> Foundation of grant funds totaling $10,000 from the Royalty Fund of the Triangle <br /> Community Foundation.
