RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING <br /> SENATOR HOWARD N. LEE <br /> WHEREAS, the Honorable Howard N. Lee began his political career in North Carolina in <br /> 1969, serving as Mayor of Chapel Hill from 1969 through 1975, and; <br /> WHEREAS, from 1977 to 1982, Senator Lee served the State of North Carolina and its <br /> residents as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural <br /> Resources; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1990, Senator Lee was appointed to the North Carolina Senate to <br /> represent the sixteenth district which included Orange, Chatham, Moore and parts of <br /> Lee and Randolph Counties, and was re-elected to the North Carolina Senate in 1992, <br /> 1996, 1998, and 2000; and <br /> WHEREAS, throughout his thirty-plus years in North Carolina government, Senator Lee <br /> has demonstrated selfless devotion in his pursuit of the best for Orange County and the <br /> entire State of North Carolina and has provided exemplary leadership and maintained <br /> high personal integrity; and <br /> WHEREAS, Senator Howard Lee's greatest strengths include his willingness to initiate <br /> and advocate for educational programs, make difficult decisions and to always place <br /> children first; <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Orange County, hereby expresses to its <br /> sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to Senator Howard N. Lee for more than three <br /> decades of outstanding and admirable public service; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners extends to Senator <br /> Howard N. Lee its highest regard and best wishes for many years of happiness, good <br /> health and rewarding experiences in his future endeavors. <br /> This, the 6`h day of November 2002. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> b. Resolution: 4-H "Wall of Reconciliation" <br /> The Board considered a resolution of the 4-H "Wall of Reconciliation"to <br /> be erected and dedicated at Efland-Cheeks Community School Park. <br /> Cooperative Extension Director Fletcher Barber accepted this resolution <br /> and said that this is an outcome project from creating connections. This is sponsored by <br /> the Cooperative Extension Service and its 4-H program and TIME (Teens Influencing the <br /> Minds of Everyone). He said that young people had an opportunity to go out and talk <br /> about diversity among the county and did decorative tiles to put on a wall (to be built) <br /> permanently at Efland-Cheeks Community School Park. <br /> Commissioner Gordon read the resolution. <br />
