1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY ' <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: March 13, 2012 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 5--F <br /> SUBJECT: Jail Inspection Report <br /> DEPARTMENT: Sheriff PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): <br /> February 10, 2012 Letter from INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Steven Lewis Lindy Pendergrass, 245-2900 <br /> Jail Inspection Report <br /> February 16, 2012 Response Letter from <br /> Sheriff <br /> February 20, 2012 Acknowledgement <br /> Letter from Steven Lewis <br /> PURPOSE: To receive the jail inspection report for January 4, 2012 from the North Carolina <br /> Department of Health and Human Services. <br /> BACKGROUND: The North Carolina General Statutes require the Board of County <br /> Commissioners to receive and take necessary corrective action to the semi-annual jail <br /> inspection reports submitted by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. <br /> The statute further states the governing body shall promptly initiate any action necessary to <br /> bring jail facilities into conformity to standards. The report for January 4, 2012 is enclosed for <br /> review and indicates Orange County's compliance with standards. <br /> The attached letters detail the Sheriff's response to the findings of the report. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with accepting the report. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board receive the report. Corrective <br /> action is being taken as required. <br />
