Affordable Housing Performance Report <br /> 2 The Board received the Annual Affordable Housing Performance Report from the <br /> 3 Orange County Affordable Housing Advisory Board. <br /> 4 Housing, Human Rights, and Community Development Director Tara Fikes presented <br /> -5 the 8th Annual Calendar and Annual Performance Report. This calendar contains a report of <br /> 6 the local affordable housing accomplishment as well as the Human Relations activities during <br /> 7 the 2010-2011 fiscal year. During that fiscal year, a little over$1,000,000 in federal, state, and <br /> 8 local funds were spent to assist in the construction of 68 new units, including 58 rental units at <br /> 9 The Landings at Winmore in Carrboro. These funds were also used to assist in the repair and <br /> 10 acquisition of 39 existing dwelling units. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 d. Proclamation: "Human Relations Month" <br /> 13 The Board considered officially proclaiming the month of February as "Human Relations <br /> 14 Month" in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 15 Tara Fikes introduced the HRC Chair Barbara Marotto who presented this item. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH <br /> 18 <br /> 19 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission believes that in order to <br /> 20 achieve justice and equal opportunity for all Orange County residents, we must all strive to <br /> 21 create an atmosphere where people are valued and accepted rather than merely tolerated, and <br /> 22 therefore continue to promote the ideal of social justice for all; and <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission has diligently served <br /> 25 Orange County since 1995 and remains committed to promoting equal treatment, opportunity <br /> 26 and understanding throughout the community; and <br /> 27 <br /> 28 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission enforces the County's <br /> 29 Civil Rights Ordinance which specifically prohibits discrimination based on an individual's race, <br /> 30 color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and familial status; and <br /> 31 <br /> 32 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission encourages Orange <br /> 33 County residents, as individuals, to take a stand against social injustice and continue to work <br /> 34 together to make freedom, justice, and equal opportunity available for all; and <br /> 35 <br /> 36 WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to preserving the progress made thus far <br /> 37 towards equality and leading the challenge for equal opportunity using all the means at our <br /> 38 disposal; <br /> 39 <br /> 40 NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 41 February 2012 as "HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH" in Orange County and challenge residents <br /> 42 to promote the ideology of social justice for all by celebrating and encouraging multiculturalism <br /> 43 in the County and encouraging all residents to embrace diversity in Orange County. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 This the 24th day of January, 2012. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 A motion was made by Commissioner Foushee, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> 48 approve the month of February as "Human Relations Month" in Orange County and authorize <br /> 49 the Chair to sign. <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />
