11
I Commissioner Gordon said that the main thing that is missing is why the applicant wants
2 to be on a particular board or commission and their experience.
3 All agreed by consensus to include this question on the application.
4 Chair Pelissier suggested using the following language: "Explain how your background,
5 education, and and/or work experience is relevant to the advisory board."
6 Commissioner Jacobs suggested including volunteer experience to the work experience.
7 Also, he would suggest including most recent work experience as opposed to all work
8 experience. He also suggested taking off the education component.
9 Commissioner Gordon said that she would like to keep the education component.
10 Commissioner Foushee said that this question could discriminate because it appears to
11 be a criterion.
12 Commissioner Yuhasz suggested having IT pre-populate areas that have the
13 name/address, but he would like to see a separate application for each board with a separate
14 statement of qualifications for each board.
15 Commissioner Jacobs asked if there really needed to be a 3-hour orientation for the
16 boards/commissions. Donna Baker said that each board is different.
17 Commissioner Jacobs suggested saying "an orientation" instead of listing a time. He
18 also suggested adding a listing of the boards and commissions to the hardcopy version of the
19 application so that applicants can see the full list.
20 Commissioner Gordon asked why education would be eliminated from the application.
21 Chair Pelissier said that there are different opinions about having education on the
22 application.
23 Frank Clifton said that he did not think that date of birth was appropriate to have on the
24 application.
25 John Roberts said that he would look at this and what is required to be disclosed for
26 certain boards and commissions.
27 John Roberts said that there was a discussion about including whether or not applicants
28 were registered to vote and the consensus was to use "domicile" instead of"registered to vote."
29 Commissioner Yuhasz made reference to page 21 and the specific categories for the
30 Board of Equalization and Review. He said that there is not a formal requirement for Orange
31 County and he would like to add this. This can be discussed later.
32 Commissioner Hemminger made reference to education and said that she has had two
33 citizens tell her that they did not apply to a board or commission because they did not have a
34 college education. The citizens thought that because it was on the application that it was a
35 requirement.
36 Chair Pelissier said that it is also important to know what other community organizations
37 or boards the citizens are involved in. The Board agreed.
38
39 A motion was made by Commissioner Hemminger, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs
40 to adjourn the meeting at 10:24 p.m.
41 VOTE: UNANIMOUS
42
43 Bernadette Pelissier, Chair
44
45 Donna S. Baker, CIVIC
46 Clerk to the Board
47
