10
1 because integration is needed, but she is curious if there is anything more than a general
2 statement.
3
4 18. Planning Board
5 Chair Pelissier said that the Board has met recently with the Planning Board and this
6 information reflects what they discussed and the County Commissioners appreciate their work.
7 Commissioner Jacobs said that there is nothing in here about continued joint planning
8 efforts with Hillsborough or Mebane. He wants to know the status of these joint planning
9 efforts.
10 Commissioner Gordon said that she would like to know more about updating the UDO.
11 Commissioner Yuhasz said that the County Commissioners are aware these are on-
12 going issues and they need to be addressed and the updates to the UDO for economic
13 development are the priorities. He said that joint planning efforts are important, but the priority
14 for the Planning Board is economic development. He does not want to give a mixed message.
15 Commissioner Jacobs said that he would like to at least know the plan for these issues
16 and keep them on the radar.
17 Commissioner McKee said that he wants to send a clear message that economic
18 development is the priority.
19 Frank Clifton said that there are discussions with Mebane at the staff level about the
20 utility agreement that includes the issue of land use discussions, etc.
21 Commissioner Gordon said that the Planning Board should be able to focus on things
22 that are timely.
23
24 19. Parks and Recreation Commission
25 Commissioner Hemminger asked when the Board was going to see the master plan.
26 This was discussed over a year ago.
27 Commissioner Gordon said that when they talk about their emerging issues, she would
28 like for them to identify 2-3 top priorities.
29
30 20. Solid Waste Advisory Board
31 Commissioner Yuhasz said that at the meeting recently they talked about
32 emerging/alternative technology for handling solid waste. He thinks that the SWAB should
33 investigate this more. Also, he asked if the Board wants the SWAB to spend time investigating
34 on Mayor Chilton's suggestion for a transfer station site.
35 Chair Pelissier said that the Board needs to discuss this first.
36 Commissioner Jacobs made reference to the last sentence on the last page where it
37 says that there are two Board of County Commissioner appointee empty slots. He asked about
38 this.
39 Commissioner Yuhasz said that he had a discussion with the SWAB Chair and this
40 board would be more effective if there were elected officials appointed to it.
41 Chair Pelissier suggested putting this in a category for discussion at a regular meeting.
42 She suggested putting this in the letter, along with a thank-you for the revised interlocal
43 agreement.
44
45 4. Orange County Boards and Commissions: Discussion of Applications
46 Chair Pelissier said that no one is really happy with the application for the advisory
47 boards. The goal is to come up with a generic application for advisory boards. There could be
48 more specific applications for OWASA, ABC, Board of Adjustment, and Planning Board. She
49 pointed out the attachments, which were examples of applications used by other municipalities.
