The Board conducted a public hearing for written and oral comments on the <br /> Local Law Enforcement Block Grant. <br /> Budget Director Donna Dean said that the amount of the federal grant is <br /> $10,893 and will be used to offset operating costs in the Sheriff's Department, including <br /> the operation of the jail. The approved budget for the Sheriff's Department for this year <br /> totals $7.5 million. She opened the public hearing to receive any comments regarding <br /> the grant. <br /> There was no one signed up to speak to this item. <br /> Commissioner Halkiotis asked Sheriff Pendergrass to come forward and he <br /> thanked him for all he has brought into the County and for all he does. <br /> Commissioner Brown thanked Sheriff Pendergrass for how well he runs the <br /> jail. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Halkiotis to approve the Sheriff's recommendation to designate the Community Watch <br /> Advisory Board to advise the Sheriff on the use of the Local Law Enforcement Block <br /> Grant funds; accept the Local Law Enforcement Grant of$10,893; and request the <br /> Manager and Budget Office to work with the Sheriff regarding an agreement with the <br /> Town of Chapel Hill for Fiscal Year 2003-04. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 8. Minutes <br /> This item was removed and placed at the end of the consent agenda for <br /> separate consideration. <br /> b. Appointments <br /> 1) Solid Waste Advisory Board — One Appointment <br /> The Board appointed Bill Rehm for a full term to expire June 30, 2005 to the <br /> Solid Waste Advisory Board. <br /> 2) Little River Park Advisory Committee— Two Reappointments and One <br /> Appointment The Board reappointed Sandra Johnson Quinn and Kim Watkins <br /> for terms expiring September 30, 2003 and appointed Annette Jurgelski for a term to <br /> expire September 30, 2003 to the Little River Park Advisory Committee. <br /> c. Jail Inspection Report The Board received the jail inspection report <br /> for July 25, 2002, from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. <br /> d. Motor Vehicle Property Tax Refunds <br /> The Board approved 63 requests for motor vehicle property tax refunds in <br /> accordance with the resolution, which is incorporated herein by reference. <br /> e. Lease Approval of a Modular Unit for Orange Public Transportation <br /> (OPT) Offices <br /> This item was removed and placed at the end of the consent agenda for <br /> separate consideration. <br /> f. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Ambulance Service <br /> Contract The Board approved and authorized the Chair to sign a contract to allow <br /> direct payment of insurance reimbursements to Orange County from Blue Cross and <br /> Blue Shield of North Carolina for Emergency Management Ambulance Services. <br />
