240 <br />0* Chapter 6: Natural and Cultural Systems Element <br />Objective PR -5.1: <br />Locate parks and recreational facilities close to residential areas to <br />encourage informal interaction with nature, encourage walkability, and <br />create areas of wildlife habitat with appropriate recreational facilities <br />within the more populated areas. <br />Objective PR -5.4: <br />Encourage development of a system of private open space and <br />conservation areas, including nature preserves, parks, linear parks, <br />and scenic vistas compatible with the character of Orange County. <br />SERVICES AND FACILITIES <br />Objective WW -1: <br />Maintain a sustainable and high quality supply of ground and surface <br />water so that available resources meet existing and projected needs. <br />Objective WW -5: <br />Maintain a cooperative joint planning process among the County, the <br />municipalities, and water and wastewater providers and guide the <br />extension of service in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan, the <br />Orange county - Chapel Hill - Carrboro joint Planning Agreement and <br />Land Use Plan, and the policies of the municipalities. <br />Objective WWA 1: <br />Increase educational efforts that increase citizen understanding of <br />water quality problems and the need for water conservation. <br />Objective WW -14: <br />Designate prime reservoir sites in the County, and protect those sites <br />from adverse development. <br />Objective WW -19: <br />Establish a continuing wastewater treatment inspection program <br />within identified Protected and Critical Water Resource Areas. <br />Objective EC -1: <br />Continue to use Best Management Practices (BMP's) for stormwater <br />control, as outlined within the Orange County Zoning Unified <br />Development Ordinance, Stormwater Ordinance, and Sedimentation <br />Control „_d:n____, to minimize potential adverse impacts on the water <br />quality. <br />TRANSPORTATION <br />Objective T -1.1: <br />Increase the occupancy of automobiles through ridesharing and other <br />means; and expand the use of public transit (including bus and rail), <br />walking, and biking as primary modes of travel. <br />Objective T -1.5: <br />Identify prime viewsheds along major transportation corridors and <br />protect these areas for their scenic and natural resource values. <br />Objective T -1.6: <br />Ora vu &COUnty Comprehens,twe,t la,w Page 6 -96 <br />
