79
Carolina Friends School
Traffic Impact Analysis
A. Mt. Sinai Road at Friends School Road (Unsignalized)
Analyses indicate the unsignalized intersection of Mt. Sinai Road at Friends
School Road currently operates with minimal overall delays in the AM study
period. The stop sign controlled northbound approach operates at LOS B and
the stop sign controlled southbound approach operates at LOS C. There is no
virtually no delay on Mt. Sinai Road.
During the 2016 No Build Scenario, the intersection is expected to continue to
operate with minimal overall delays. The northbound and southbound
approaches operate at LOS B and D, respectively. Mt. Sinai Road will continue
to operate with virtually no delay.
During the 2016 Build Out Scenario, the intersection is expected to continue to
operate with minimal overall delays. The northbound and southbound
approaches operate at LOS C and D, ,respectively. The additional traffic adds 1
second of delay to the northbound movement and 4.4 seconds of delay to the
southbound movement. Mt. Sinai Road will continue to operate with virtually no
delay.
According to the NCDOT, the 2009 average daily traffic volume on Mt. Sinai
Road was 1700 vehicles per day. Two lane roadways can theoretically carry
over 12,000 vehicles per day. Therefore, there is extra capacity on Mt. Sinai Road
to accommodate additional traffic generated by Carolina Friends School.
Table 3 summarizes the LOS and average delay per vehicle at the Mt. Sinai Road
at Friends School Road intersection.
March 2011 Page 13
