Chapter 6: Natural and Cultural Systems Element <br /> suitable for low-impact recreation and wildlife habitat. (See also Land <br /> Use Objective LU-4.3 and Parks and Recreation Objectives PR-1.3 and <br /> PR-4.1 .) <br /> Objective NA-11: <br /> Develop a comprehensive conservation plan for achieving a network of <br /> protected open space throughout Orange County, which addresses 1) <br /> threats to important natural areas; 2) connectivity between protected <br /> areas; 3) coordination with neighboring counties; and 4) sustainable <br /> management of critical natural resources. (See also Parks and <br /> Recreation Objective PR-5.4.) <br /> Objective NA-12: <br /> Establish a system of nature preserves that protect large areas of <br /> undeveloped land (including significant natural areas) surrounded by <br /> low-density development and working farms and managed forests. <br /> (See also Parks and Recreation Objective PR-5.4.) <br /> Obmective NA-13: <br /> Promote clustering of residential development and dedication of large <br /> areas of undisturbed land for low-impact recreational use by residents <br /> and for wildlife habitat. Where feasible, these areas should be <br /> contiguous to neighboring tracts of undisturbed land. (See also Parks <br /> and Recreation Objective PR-5.1 .) <br /> Objective NA-14: <br /> Encourage developers and neighborhood associations to protect <br /> undeveloped community open space through formal conservation <br /> agreements. <br /> Objective NA-15: <br /> Protect land in and around biologically significant areas, and <br /> connections between these areas, to allow for the maintenance of <br /> native wildlife and plant populations and their functional relationships. <br /> Objective NA-16: <br /> Create a system of public and private open space and conservation <br /> areas, including parks, nature preserves, and scenic vistas <br /> representative of the Orange County landscape. (See also Land Use <br /> Objective LU-3.10, Parks and Recreation Objective PR-5.4, and <br /> Transportation Objective T-1.5.) <br /> Objective NA-1 7: <br /> Maintain and protect land that contains valuable productive resources, <br /> such as prime farmland and prime forestland, by directing <br /> incompatible development away from these areas.
