72 <br />ORANGE COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br />INPUT FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' ANNUAL PLANNING RETREAT <br />The Board of Commissioners welcomes input from various advisory boards and <br />commissions in preparation for its annual planning retreat. Please complete the <br />following information, limited to the front and back of this form. Other <br />background materials may be provided as a supplement to, but not as a <br />substitute for, this form. <br />Board/Commission Name: Parks and Recreation Council <br />Person to address the BOCC at Retreat (if requested by BOCC) and contact <br />information: Denise Dickinson, Keith Bagby <br />Primary County Staff Contact: Lori Taft <br />How many times per month does this board/commission meet, including <br />any special meetings and sub-committee meetings? <br />In 2012, PARC plans to meet ten (10) times. The meetings will be held at a <br />variety of locations. <br />Brief Statement of Board/Commission's Assigned Charge and <br />Responsibilities. <br />• To advocate for needed recreation programs and facilities. <br />• To promote recreation and assist agencies in their recreational interests and <br />needs. <br />• To advise the Parks and Recreation director and staff, suggest policies to the <br />Department ,the Manager and the Board of County Commissioners <br />• To serve as liaison between the Department, .the Manager, the Board of County <br />Commissioners and the citizens of Orange County <br />• To advise and make recommendations on: supervised recreation, use and <br />improvements to properties for recreational use, and construction, equipping and <br />staffing facilities <br />• To advise on the acquisition of lands and structures <br />• To advise on the acceptance of grants or donations <br />• To advise in regard to construction, equipping, operation, and maintenance of <br />parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and all buildings and structures necessary <br />or useful to department function, and advise in regard to other recreation facilities <br />that are owned or controlled by the County and leased or loaned to the County. <br />• To take the necessary steps to create along-range master plan for the proper <br />and adequate acquisition of recreation areas, and the development of recreation <br />facilities, structures and programs for the present and future needs of all citizens <br />of the County <br />
