53 <br />What are your Board/Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />• Preparation, and now implementation, of the Cultural Resources Chapter of the <br />2030 Comprehensive Plan (2008) <br />• Completion of Design Standards for Orange County Local Landmarks and Local <br />Historic Districts (2010) _ <br />• Recommendations to designate Local Landmarks, including the most recent <br />property, Murphey School in the spring of 2011 <br />• Support of the stabilization of the historic building complexes at future park sites <br />• Organization of a preservation summit in May of 2010 involving ten of the major <br />preservation organizations (historic commissions and non-profits) from Orange <br />County and its municipalities <br />List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually. <br />• Preparation of an annual report for the Certified Local Government Program <br />• Activities related to National Historic Preservation Month in May, including <br />organizing a photo contest with the Orange County Museum and a booth at Last <br />Fridays <br />• Administration of the Local Landmark Program <br />• Provides a public forum for comments on National Register Nominations <br />Describe this board/commission's activities/accomplishments in carrying out <br />BOCC goal(s)/priorities, if applicable. <br />Goal Two: Promote an interactive and transparent system of governance that <br />reflects community values. <br />Priority 7: Improve intra-and intergovernmental coordination, cooperation and <br />collaboration. (a) Work with Town of Hillsborouah on: Joint land use planning <br />approaches, policies/ordinances, and annexation, and Economic Development <br />Districts. (b) Work with City of Durham on: Economic Development Districts. <br />• The HPC's work with the Hillsborough HDC regarding the handling of historic <br />sites located in the Town's ETJ speaks to Priority 7. <br />Goal Five: Create, preserve, and protect a natural environment that includes <br />clean water, clean air, wildlife, important natural lands and sustainable energy <br />for present and future generations. <br />Priority 15:~ Complete stewardship and management plans for Lands Legacy <br />• The HPC has been actively involved in the stabilization of the historic <br />buildings at the County's future park sites and, when asked, has offered <br />suggestions on potential new uses for buildings that outlived their original <br />purpose. The HPC would like to use the collective expertise of its members <br />to become more involved in the repair and use of these important structures, <br />and has sent a memo to County Management to that effect. <br />
