49 <br />ORANGE COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br />INPUT FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' ANNUAL PLANNING RETREAT <br />The Board of Commissioners welcomes input from various advisory boards and <br />commissions in preparation for its annual planning retreat. Please complete the <br />following information, limited to the front and back of this form. Other <br />background materials may be provided as a supplement to, but not as a <br />substitute for, this form. <br />Board/Commission Name: Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br />Person to address the BOCC at Retreat (if requested by BOCC) and contact <br />information: <br />Heather Altman, Advisory Board Chair <br />haltman@carolwoods.org <br />109 Sunset Ridge Lane Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />Primary County Staff Contact: Janice~Tyler, Department on Aging Director <br />How many times per month does this board/commission meet, including <br />any special meetings and sub-committee meetings? <br />In addition to the monthly meetings, the Board has been actively engaged in <br />MAP meetings and work groups, sometimes meeting several times monthly. <br />They were also very involved in the MAP focus groups this summer and the Long <br />Term Care Roundtable planning sub-committee. <br />Brief Statement of Board/Commission's Assigned Charge and <br />Responsibilities: <br />This Board suggests policy and makes recommendations to the Board of <br />Commissioners and the Department on Aging while acting as the liaison between <br />the older adults of the County and County government. It is charged with <br />promoting needed services, programs and funding that impacts the older adults. <br />What are your Board/Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />• Initiated the Master Aging Plan Update process for 2012-2017, sponsoring <br />9 public focus groups in 7 townships with 63 attendees and a MAP <br />Community Kick-Off on October 5 where 115 participated in the planning <br />process. The new MAP process is considered a model for the state. <br />• Recruited a UNC School of Public Health HB/HE Capstone Team of five <br />graduate students to assist with the development of the Master Aging Plan <br />• Secured funding from community organizations to contract with two <br />summer interns who assisted with the public forums and the Readiness <br />Survey interviews conducted with each Department Head and an <br />
