20 <br />Not applicable. <br />Identify any activities this board/commission expects to carry out in 2012 <br />as they relate to established BOCC goals and priorities. <br />If applicable, is there a fiscal impact (i.e., funding, staff time, other <br />resources) associated with these proposed activities (please list). <br />As was the case last year, the ASAB expects to be especially concerned with <br />several areas in the coming year. These are: <br />Budget Discipline and Core Services <br />• Continue to implement the County's strategic plan for managing pet <br />overpopulation to control medium and long-term costs. <br />• Continue to concentrate on core services and to seek effective <br />partnerships with other organizations. <br />• Continue to communicate with others (as needed) about the preceding. <br />Making County Government Accessible, Understandable and Transparent <br />• Continue to serve as a sounding board for the BOCC on policy concerns. <br />• Continue to coordinate with staff to inform the BOCC of strategic initiatives <br />and significant policy considerations <br />Advisory Board Roles and Responsibilities <br />• Continue to recommend ASAB applicants to the BOCC and orient new <br />members to the role and responsibility of the advisory board. <br />• Work with staff to ensure effectiveness of new board protocols for boards <br />and commissions. <br />• Work with staff to effectively communicate about programs, service areas, <br />and the like. <br />• Continue to make recommendations to BOCC and OCAS staff on issues <br />of citizen concern. <br />What are the concerns or emerging issues your board has identified for the <br />upcoming year that it plans to address, or wishes to bring to the <br />Commissioners' attention? <br />Spay/Neuter: Continue to work with staff to promote targeted spay/neuter efforts <br />and ensure the success of the County's strategic plan for managing pet <br />overpopulation. Explore whether additional efforts are needed to .increase <br />effectiveness of spay/neuter outreach. Initiatives for investigation may include: <br />• Additional outreach to reach portion of low income population not currently <br />reached through DSS. <br />• A community fund to cover the $20 cost of the $20 Fix. <br />• A pro bono network of veterinarians who can provide spay neuter <br />services, possibly based on models in other communities. <br />
