16 <br />What are the concerns or emerging issues your board has identified for the <br />upcoming year that it plans to address, or wishes to bring to the Commissioners' <br />attention? <br />• The Agricultural Preservation Board should work with the County Attorney's <br />Office and state legal experts to review changes to state legislation pertaining to <br />agriculture and to determine the potential effect of these changes to County <br />programs and policies. <br />• The Agricultural Preservation Board should focus on saving operating farms not <br />just farmland. <br />• The APB should continue to work with the Animal Services Advisory Board to <br />ensure that the Animal Control Ordinance is farmer friendly. <br />• As we work to encourage new farmers (including new to farming and new the <br />area) the APB may wish to develop a "Farmer Welcome Kit," including the "At a <br />Glance, Informational Guide for Orange County Farmers" that could be send out <br />to people moving to the area, as part of a visitors bureau package or similar set <br />of materials. <br />• The APB should continue to research and inform local farmers of green business <br />opportunities, including ways to supplement income through the production of <br />renewable energy. <br />
