County Manager, <br /> 245-2308 <br /> Gayle Wilson, Director, Solid Waste <br /> Management, 968-2885 <br /> PURPOSE: To discuss alternative technologies related to solid waste disposal options. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Solid Waste Advisory Board (SWAB) reviewed available alternative <br /> technologies related to solid waste disposal in 2010. The Board reached consensus that the <br /> range of technical, economic and risk-related issues surrounding a thorough and effective <br /> consideration of alternative technologies for solid waste may require far more resources and <br /> expertise than the SWAB has available. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: Decisions with regard to alternative technologies related to solid waste <br /> disposal could have significant financial impact on both the County and the Towns. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board, along with the elected <br /> Boards of the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, discuss the alternative. <br /> technology options for the disposal of solid waste. <br />
