Resolution Designating Voluntary Agricultural District— Bacon Family <br /> The Board considered a resolution certifying farmlands identified by the Bacon family as <br /> qualifying farmland and designating a Voluntary Agricultural District. <br /> Environment and Resource Conservation Director David Stancil said the Bacon Family Farm <br /> on St. Mary's Road would add 160 acres to the voluntary agricultural district. Commissioner Halkiotis <br /> read the resolution. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Brown to approve <br /> and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution as stated below: <br /> A Resolution Certifying the Bacon Family Farm as Qualifying Farmland and Designating a <br /> Voluntary Agricultural District <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County adopted a Voluntary Farmland Preservation Program Ordinance in 1992 <br /> with provisions for the creation of Voluntary Agricultural Districts; and <br /> WHEREAS, since 1992 seven farms totaling 1,517 acres have enrolled in the Voluntary Agricultural <br /> District program; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Voluntary Agricultural Districts program has been a valuable tool in promoting <br /> farmland preservation among willing participants; and <br /> WHEREAS, Don Johnson, on behalf of himself and other family members, has applied to enroll lands <br /> owned by himself and his family in the program; and <br /> WHEREAS, the review by staffs from ERCD, Soil and Water and the Tax Assessor validate the <br /> eligibility of 160 acres of the Bacon family lands in the application; and <br /> WHEREAS, on April 17, the Agricultural Preservation Board approved certification of the <br /> aforementioned 160 acres (as shown on the accompanying map) as qualifying farmland and <br /> unanimously recommended the designation of Voluntary Agricultural District for these lands: <br />
