Mayor Foy: Please submit your questions, and I'm going to ask one of the
leaders in this effort to come forward with closing remarks, the Chair of the Chatham County
Commissioners, Gary Phillips (applause).
Chair Gary Phillips: Panel thank you for your intelligence, for your organization,
and for your commitment, and we are very glad to have you here this evening (applause). I
want to thank you folks for your perseverance and for your commitment. I was struck, when we
talk about safety issues, perhaps the safest thing we could possibly do is to ask public utilities
not to make political contributions (applause). Every single day those of us who are decision-
makers in all of our small localities understand in a deeper and a deeper way that the
boundaries between us are just political and that we must begin looking at regional issues in a
regional way. I hope that the forum this evening and the conversation that began here can work
itself in many other directions that we can begin discussing with each other the important
questions that affect all of us, and that by working together and acting together and demanding
together of accountability, that we can make changes, develop relationships, and we can protect
each other and care for each other. So I thank you for your time this evening. I hope that
materials will be generated from this that will be useful to everybody. Have a good evening and
God bless (applause).
At this time, the forum was dismissed.
Barry Jacobs, Chair
Beverly A. Blythe, CIVIC
