CTA Communications
Orange RaCE Test Report
Table 6 -2 RaCE Mobile Location Equipment
6.2 The RaCE Test Sequence
When a test sequence occurs, the mobile unit transmits a pre- recorded message to the
stationary unit. The stationary unit receives the mobile's message and evaluates it for
talk -in DAQ. When the mobile unit finishes transmitting, the stationary unit transmits a
pre- recorded message to the system. The mobile unit receives the stationary unit's
message and evaluates it for talk -out DAQ, and concurrently records the RSSI. The
stationary unit is located close to the radio repeater site, to provide a strong and stable
signal area and therefore be "captured" by the site under test.
6.3 The RaCE Test Set Calibration
The RaCE software includes a proprietary algorithm that evaluates DAQ based on the
noise and distortion in the received audio of the RaCE test message. DAQ is not based
on signal strength or on bit error rate. Using telecommunication professionals, CTA has
calibrated (and continues to do so) the effects of noise and distortion on DAQ scores, and
uses this input to validate (and occasionally revise) the proprietary algorithm inherent in
the RaCE software. RSSI is measured by receivers calibrated as part of the test setup.
The RSSI receivers were calibrated using the procedures listed in APPENDIX A. The
verification equipment used for calibrating the RSSI receivers is listed in TABLE 6 -3.
-15- H MM I AECOM,
