CTA Communications
Orange RaCE Test Report
6.0 Equipment And Test Setup
6.1 The RaCE Test Set
FIGURE 6 -1 on the following page shows the RaCE test set block diagram. The RaCE
test set consists of two test units: a stationary test unit and a mobile test unit. The mobile
and stationary test units consists of a mobile radio (Motorola XTL -5000) supplied by
Orange County Emergency Management, a mobile antenna, a GIPS receiver and
antenna for establishing the test vehicle location and test sequence timing, a laptop
computer running CTA's RaCE software and the equipment to connect these items
together. The mobile test unit has an additional auxiliary receiver and antenna to
measure RSSI from the designated repeater.
The Orange County mobile radios were preprogrammed with a wide -area talk group
labeled "OCMAID" for this test and provided to CTA prior to the actual testing, so that we
could physically interface the radios with the RaCE mobile and stationary units.
Equipment lists for the RaCE test set stationary and mobile units are provided in TABLES
6 -1 and 6 -2.
The RaCE test unit was setup for the Continuous By Time test mode.
The test setup required additional attenuation as described in SECTION 6.4, to match the
Orange County portable on- the - street coverage at the hip design configuration with that
of the mobile radio with a vehicle antenna test configuration of the RaCE test set.
-13- H MM
