CTA Communications <br />Orange RaCE Test Report <br />5.1.2 Signal Level <br />This performance specification involves defining the minimum receiver signal level <br />required to provide the desired level of understandability. For example, a typical grade of <br />service specification could be, "a median 0.5 microvolt signal at the receiver antenna <br />terminal." <br />5.2 Service Area and Conditions <br />The service area is the area in which two -way radio communications are required; the <br />radio system should meet the desired CPC throughout the service area. Often the <br />service area is defined by a political or municipal boundary. <br />It is also necessary to define the conditions associated with the service area. These <br />conditions include requirements such as outdoor or indoor coverage, building <br />penetration, portable or mobile coverage, portable at the hip and /or portable at the head <br />level. <br />For the Orange County testing, the service area was defined as the County's political <br />boundary and the radios were set up to simulate portable at the hip coverage. <br />5.3 Validated Service Area Reliability <br />Validated service area reliability is defined as the percentage of locations in the service <br />area to and from which radio communications meet or exceed the desired CPC. <br />The validated service area reliability value in per cent is calculated by dividing the <br />number of valid test measurements within the defined service area that meet or exceed <br />the required CPC divided by the total number of valid test measurements. <br />The entire concept of conformance testing relies on statistics. Validated service area <br />reliability is determined on the basis of measuring a statistically significant number of <br />random test locations, uniformly throughout the defined service area. These required <br />statistical elements are defined in the TIA/EIA TSB -88 -B. <br />5.4 Continuous By Time Test Mode <br />This test was set up as a pre- determined drive route to get a sampling of data throughout <br />the County. In order to maximize the data collected, we utilized the Continuous by Time <br />test mode. With continuous by time testing, tests are performed whenever the specified <br />time interval has passed. For Orange County testing the test interval was set for 20 <br />seconds. <br />5.5 Test Sampling <br />The RaCE test set is capable of gathering samples on the basis of talk -in and talk -out <br />DAQ measurements and /or talk -out RSSI measurements. For these tests, both were <br />collected. <br />5.5.1 DAQ Test Sample <br />A DAQ test sample is a single talk -in or talk -out evaluation performed at a test location. <br />The test is initiated when the mobile unit enters an untested grid in the "gridded" test <br />mode. <br />The mobile unit sends a test message to the stationary unit (talk -in). The location <br />established for this talk -in transmission is the latitude and longitude of the mobile unit <br />when the message began.
