CTA Comuniicatiions
Orange RaCE Test Report
Appendix A Setup Procedures
A.1 Pre-Ship Procedures
Before departing Lynchburg, the following procedures were executed:
1. Install current and approved version of the RaCE software.
2. Set and verify audio levels from the Orange County provided radios under test.
3. Install RaCE hardware and verify radio operation.
4. Calibrate RaCE RSSI receivers using the following procedures:
• With the computer connected to the RSSI. receiver to be checked, start the RaCE
subroutine that allows the monitoring of the digital RSSI output of the receiver.
• Connect the signal generator to the receiver/pre-amplifier combination.
• Set the signal generator to a frequency near the mid point of the band to be
calibrated and set the software to program the radio to the same frequency.
• Adjust the output level to the point where the RSSI count just reaches 255 and
note the level in dBm.
• Decrease the output in 1 dB steps and record the RSSI value for each step until
the RSSI indication becomes 000.
• Enter the results into the RaCE calibration table for the receiver.
5. Complete Loss Calculation table and select attenuation level for portable mounted at
the hip simulation.
Perform RaCE system bench testing and verification.
6. Install stationary and mobile RaCE and verify system operation in a talk around mode
using assigned VHF frequencies.
7. Extract data from mobile and stationary units and verify correlation routines work and
that the data is acceptable.
A.2 Post-Ship. Procedures
On arrival at the testing site, the following procedures were executed:
1. Mobile Unit -Reproduce the mobile configuration established above.
2. Verify the Mobile Unit frequencies to be tested are correctly input into RaCE.
3. Stationary Unit -reproduce the stationary configuration established above.
4. Verify the Stationary Unit test frequencies are correctly input into RaCE.
