That the Clerk of this Board is hereby <br /> directed to deliver a certified copy of this resolution to the County Board <br /> of Elections with the request that the County Board of Elections take all <br /> necessary steps required of it by law for carrying out the provisions of this <br /> resolution. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Laws , seconded by <br /> Commissioner Wilson , the foregoing resolution entitled "Resolution calling <br /> a special bond election" was passed by the following vote: . <br /> Ayes: Commissioners Cobb, Wilson and Laws <br /> Noes: None. <br /> It was brought to the attention of the Board that the Board had previous- <br /> ly passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of four acres of land on <br /> Occon m�ee Mountain from F. S. Cates for the price of TI?REE HUNDRED DOLLARS, <br /> said/uo e used for an observation tower and site by the North Carolina Depar - <br /> ment of Conservation and development, and that the said State agency would _ <br /> require that the County execute and deliver lease for the ,property. i ; 1 <br /> T; motion duly made and seconded the following resolution was unanimous ' <br /> ly adoptopt ed: <br /> Resolved that the County of Orange lease to the North Carolina Department <br /> of Conservation and Development the said tract of land for a period of FIFTY <br /> YEARS and that the Chairman of the Board be and he is hereby authorized to <br /> execute such lease, which execution the Secretary or Clerk to the Board shall <br /> attest. <br /> 2:^. C. Burt presented a petition, requesting that something be done to the <br /> road running from West Hillsboro to Fighway No. 70, by the Colored School to <br /> make it passable in the winter and eliminate the dust in the summer. <br /> Paiss Annie Strowd, Acting Superintendent of Public Welfare appeared and <br /> reported on the work done trsough her office for the previous month. She also <br /> presented 1947-48 budgets for Public Welfare administration, Old Age Assistance <br /> and Aid to Dependent Childred which were approved by the Board. <br /> Upon-motion, the Board:approved the suspension of Louise Macklin from Aid <br /> tto Blind cases for three months, effective June 1, 1947. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, duly seconded by Commissioner Laws <br /> it is hereby ordered that fire insurance be increased on the Courthouse and <br /> Agricultural Building, as follows: Courhouse THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS, <br /> Agricultural Building THIRThEN THO?!SAhD DOLLARS. <br /> Upon motion, the contract of W. M. Russ and Company of Raleigh, N. C. to <br /> audit the County records for the fiscal yeas July 1, 1946 to June 30, 1947 <br /> at a price of Tl4T'Lti' ' HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS was approved. <br /> Upon motion, the following applications to retail beer in the county was <br /> approved: J. R. Toler---- Oscar Strum--- Charlie Baldwin. <br /> Upon motion, Eugene Laws was L;ranted a free license to peddle Watkins <br /> products in Orange County for a period of one year. <br /> A delegation, composed mostly of ladies from Hillsboro and Chapel Hill <br /> appeared before the Board and protested the proposed plans for remodeling <br /> the Courthouse. <br /> CONTD. <br />
