General Assistance ,Donations -receipt of $1,225 given by Orange County <br />citizens to be used for special needs of clients including seniors throughout the <br />year. These funds are budgeted in a special Adoption Enhancement Fund outside <br />of the General Fund.. ' <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of the above mentioned funds. (See <br />Attachment 1, column #1) <br />Department on Aging <br />2. 'The Department on Aging has received the following additional funds: <br />• Health Promotion and Disease Prevention funds -The Department on Aging has <br />received additional State Health Promotion and Disease Prevention funds of $2,792 <br />from the Triangle J Area Agency on Aging to pay for instructors of the Arthritis <br />Foundation Exercise Program at the Seymour and Central Orange Senior Centers. <br />• Sponsorship funds -funds collected of $6,000 from additional sponsors of the <br />2011 Orange County Community Resource Guide. <br />• State Senior Center General Purpose funds -receipt of $8,138 from the North <br />Carolina Division on Aging to be used for temporary help at the Seymour and Central <br />.Orange Senior Centers and to purchase necessary departmental supplies. <br />• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program -receipt of $4,500 to provide <br />free tax services for low- to moderate-income citizens who cannot prepare their own <br />tax returns. The .United Way of the Greater Triangle, through the Orange County <br />Women's Center, has provided $4,500 for a nonpermanent, VITA coordinator and <br />supplies. <br />• Triangle Sportsplex Temporary Hours -receipt of $6,000 from the Triangle <br />Sportsplex to provide front desk staffing so that the Sportsplex can use Central <br />Orange Senior Center classroom space after normal Center business hours two <br />evenings per week and Saturday mornings. This arrangement also allows Senior <br />Center staff to program for evening and Saturday morning events when the Center <br />would be otherwise closed. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of the above mentioned funds. (See <br />Attachment 1, column #2) <br />Health Department <br />3. The Health Department has received the following additional funds: <br />_ Tohacco Control Grant Funds - an additional $1,000 from the National Association <br />of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) and the National Association of City and County <br />Health Officials (NACCHO). The Department will use these .funds, along with the <br />$5,000 the Board of Commissioners approved on Budget Amendment #2 (September <br />20, 2011), to coordinate aone-day planning meeting with a team of 10 community <br />agencies with a resulting action plan for sustaining local tobacco control efforts. <br />
