4 ~~p~a~tx~e~.t o,~ ~x1V~.TO~I11Q~~, ~g~~c~~t~~~, ~a.~~ ~ ~ec~r~~~i0~. -MEMORANDUM TO: ~ Donna Baker, Clerk to the Board of Commissioners FROM: David Stancil, Director, Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation DATE: December 1; 2011 SUBJECT: Recommendation for Appointment to the Historic Preservation Commission After thoughtFul recruiting efforts, the Orange County has received an application from Robert Ireland to join the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). Mr. Ireland has extensive professional and volunteer experience as an historian, and has been involved in a number of local activities in Hillsborough and Orange County. The HPC participates in the federal Certified Local Government (CLG) program. All HPC members must have personal, professional, and/or organizational experience related to historic preservation. Examples of appropriate professions include: architect, historian, architectural historian, archaeologist, landscape architect, planner, anthropologist, curator, conservationist, folklorist, or other activities that are related to historic preservation. Members must also reside in Orange County's planning jurisdiction. - Several other applicants have applied for the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission but do not meet the experience requirement of the CLG program and the residency requirement for Orange County. Mr. Ireland's knowledge and experience as an historian will lead to a more well- rounded preservation board. He would fill the seat of Alice Remini, whose term expired but was continuing to attend until a qualified applicant could be found. Please convey this to the Board of County Commissioners for this consideration this winter. This appointment would provide the HPC with full membership. Tharik you.
