ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: December 13, 2011 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 9-- - GZ <br />SUBJECT: Resolution of Appreciation for The Herald-Sun/The Chapel Hill Herald and <br />Publisher Rick Bean <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager's Office & PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Economic Development - <br />Visitors Bureau <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Resolution of Appreciation for The <br />Herald Sun/Chapel Hill Herald and <br />Publisher Rick Bean <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Laurie Paolicelli, 919-968-2064 <br />PURPOSE: To consider adopting a Resolution of Appreciation for The Herald-Sun/The Chapel <br />Hill Herald and Publisher Rick Bean, specifically for The Chapel Hill Herald and the fifty-two (52) <br />weeks of donated advertisements for Orange County. <br />BACKGROUND: Beginning with its January 2, 2011 edition,. The Herald-Sun, The Chapel Hill <br />Herald edition, launched the first of fifty-two (52) advertisements focusing the spotlight on <br />Orange County as a great place to live, work, play and visit. The Herald-Sun, specifically <br />through publisher Rick Bean, has donated 52 full page, four-color ads in its Sunday editions - a <br />gift totaling approximately $200,000 of in-kind value to Orange County. Since the campaign <br />started, the calls and inquiries to the Orange County Visitors Bureau (a partner in the campaign) <br />have substantially increased with residents and visitors requesting more information on Orange <br />County. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board: <br />1) Adopt the Resolution of Appreciation for The Herald-Sun/The Chapel Hill Herald and <br />Publisher Rick Bean for donating 52 advertisements .focusing on Orange County as a <br />great place to live, work, play and visit; <br />2) Authorize the Chair to sign the Resolution of Appreciation; and <br />3) Express thanks to Mr. Bean and The Herald-Sun for demonstrating great care and <br />respect for Orange County by taking media leadership in sharing Orange County's proud <br />history and current accomplishments. <br />
