We were able to reach out into the
county and serve families all summer long with the help of the Orange County
department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation and the Efland
Cheeks Community Center.
We recorded a net loss of - $2,840.00 but we understand that the first year in
organizing a new camp, it is just as important to make a presence and we hope
that if this camp continues in the future, there is a positive net.
The staff did a great job creating a Y camp environment in a new location. The
parent responses were very positive and many said that they would be back next
summer if we returned and were hopeful that the number of campers would
increase now that families know about the camp. Several times this summer,
parents told us that if they knew about this camp earlier they would have booked it
for the entire summer rather than just one week. They loved the activities, the
songs, and especially the staff.
The Chapel Hill - Carrboro YMCA would like to thank DEAPR for their help on this
project and would like to look into returning next summer. We would also like to
look into the possibility of adding a week to the summer and offer 8 weeks of ECDC
in 2012.
Sample of Parent Response Received:
I just wanted to let you know that our son, , just attended the YMCA camp at Efland Cheeks
and had a phenomenal time! On Thursday evening his brother asked if he was excited that Friday was
his last day and he told him that he was sad because it was his last day. Ben, TT, Rodney, Audrey, and of
course Whitney should all be commended! He has already put it on his list of camps for next summer.
Thank you so much!
