The number of volunteers responding to an emergency <br />generally ranges from two to six members. Approximately 50 percent of the <br />membership is certified at the Firefighter II level. In addition to fire and emergency <br />medical services, the department participates in the Chatham County Technical <br />Rescue Team. The technical rescue program includes all traditional technical rescue <br />components, with the exception of confined space. In support of their emergency <br />operations, the department conducts an on-going pre-incident data collection <br />program. All commercial properties receive a site visit with the resulting preplans <br />stored in laptop computers in department vehicles. Approximately SO percent of the <br />response district has municipal fire hydrants. The department relies on rural water <br />supply operations in the remaining area.
