Orange County Emergency Management, North Carolina <br />Final VIPER Anal sis Re ort Au ust 20, 2004 <br />8.0 POTENTIAL MIGRATION PATHS <br />The first migration path is for all Orange County entities to migrate from their existing <br />conventional radio systems to operation to VIPER. Before entities fully migrate to <br />VIPER, the PSAPs responsible for dispatching them must be migrated to VIPER first. <br />The new PSAP dispatch equipment must have VIPER trunked interface and conventional <br />interfaces to support communications on legacy VHF and UHF conventional channels <br />during migration and interoperability after migration to VIPER. <br />8.1 Work currently underway <br />Efforts are underway to begin this process as Orange County and Chapel Hill <br />have applied for grants naming VIPER as the project and describing infrastructure <br />sites in the Northern portion of Orange County and in Chapel Hill near UNC- <br />Medical Center, plus subscriber equipment for Chapel Hill. Design details must <br />be worked out with NC-SHP and the locations where the sites are being planned. <br />8.2 OCEM migration to VIPER. <br />Orange County Emergency Management must purchase new dispatch consoles, <br />console switch equipment, backup control stations as described in TABLE 6-1. <br />Operation of all the equipment is required before OCEM can support dispatching <br />any entities migrating to VIPER currently dispatched by OCEM. <br />8.3 UNC-CH Public Safety PSAP migration to VIPER. <br />UNC-CH Department of Public Safety must purchase new dispatch consoles, <br />console switch equipment, backup control stations as described in TABLE 6-2. <br />Operation of all the equipment is required before UNC-CH Department of Public <br />Safety units migrate to VIPER. <br />Section 8 -Potential Migration Paths <br />;~~~~~ ~ Page 39 of 43 <br />..., <br />
