Before entities fully migrate to
VIPER, the PSAPs responsible for dispatching them must be migrated to VIPER first.
The new PSAP dispatch equipment must have VIPER trunked interface and conventional
interfaces to support communications on legacy VHF and UHF conventional channels
during migration and interoperability after migration to VIPER.
8.1 Work currently underway
Efforts are underway to begin this process as Orange County and Chapel Hill
have applied for grants naming VIPER as the project and describing infrastructure
sites in the Northern portion of Orange County and in Chapel Hill near UNC-
Medical Center, plus subscriber equipment for Chapel Hill. Design details must
be worked out with NC-SHP and the locations where the sites are being planned.
8.2 OCEM migration to VIPER.
Orange County Emergency Management must purchase new dispatch consoles,
console switch equipment, backup control stations as described in TABLE 6-1.
Operation of all the equipment is required before OCEM can support dispatching
any entities migrating to VIPER currently dispatched by OCEM.
8.3 UNC-CH Public Safety PSAP migration to VIPER.
UNC-CH Department of Public Safety must purchase new dispatch consoles,
console switch equipment, backup control stations as described in TABLE 6-2.
Operation of all the equipment is required before UNC-CH Department of Public
Safety units migrate to VIPER.
Section 8 -Potential Migration Paths
;~~~~~ ~ Page 39 of 43
...,
