VIPER implementation does not have a
firm schedule, except as identified in TABLE 3-1. By the end of 2005, the
majority of VIPER radio sites providing Orange County radio coverage
are planned to be operational. The next major effort can begin as early as
2005 to develop purchase specifications for equipment required to
complete OCEM and UNC-CH Public Safety PSAPs. Once the PSAPs are
completed and operational on VIPER, subscriber equipment may be
purchased for VIPER by participating entities.
7.3.2 Long-Term Cost Comparison
TABLE 7-2 shows a cost comparison for the Private 800 MHz trunked
system; VIPER assuming UNC-CH Services purchased a separate digital
800 MHz trunked radio system and VIPER assuming UNC-CH Services
remains on their legacy systems. The table provides yearly cost for the
first 10 years and a cumulative cost for 10 year and 15 year for each of the
three scenarios. Maintenance cost estimates for each scenario begin 1 year
after the year equipment was purchased.
The cost for the Private system includes all 800 MHz trunked
infrastructure, console equipment, microwave equipment and subscriber
equipment in the initial purchase.
'' Section 7 -Comparison of Private System and VIPER
'~^~ Page 34 of 43
~..,,
