ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 10, 2011 <br />Action Agen a <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Creation of a General Policy for Board of County Commissioners' Advisory <br />Boards <br />DEPARTMENT: County Attorney <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />General Advisory Board Policy <br />Specific Board Policy and Procedures <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Frank Clifton, County Manager, 245- <br />2300 <br />John Roberts, County Attorney, 245- <br />2318 <br />PURPOSE: To review and consider draft policy documents relating to the governance of <br />advisory boards which serve the needs of the Orange County Board of Commissioners. <br />BACKGROUND: In 2009 the Board of Commissioners determined that the advisory board <br />policies and procedures needed to be revised or even completely replaced. The Board further <br />studied the issue with representatives of the University of North Carolina School of <br />Government. After this further study the Board directed the County Attorney to draft an <br />advisory board policy document and bring the document back to the Board for further <br />consideration. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board examine the draft advisory <br />board policy documents and provide direction to staff. <br />
