While reviewing
her application, -staff realized that as a register-ed landscape architect Ms. Lelekacs qualifies for
membership on the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
When the Board chose another applicant for the APB at large position a couple months ago, the
HPC contacted Ms. Lelekacs to inquire about her potential interest in joining the HPC. Ms.
Lelekacs attended the August HPC meeting_ and expressed her interest in updating her volunteer
application to include membership on the HPC.
The Historic Preservation Commission participates in the Certified Local Government program.
All HPC members -must have personal, professional, and/or organization experience related to
historic preservation. Examples of appropriate professions include: architect, historian,
architectural historian, archaeologist, landscape architect, planner, anthropologist, curator,
conservationist, or folklorist, or other activities that are related to historic preservation.
Members must also reside in Orange County's planning jurisdiction.
Several other applicants have applied for the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission but
do not meet the experience requirement of the CLG program and the- residency requirement for
Orange County. Ms. Lelekacs' design experience will lead to a more well-rounded preservation
board. She would-fill the seat of Len Vogel, who resigned in November when he moved out of
the county.
Please convey this to the Board of County Commissioners for their consideration in September.
Thank you.
NATURAL and CULTURAL RESOURCES DIVISION
Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation
PO Box 8181
Hillsborough, NC 27278
Phone: (919) 245-2510
Fax: (919) 644-3351
