Part -time -personnel cover <br />authorized leave taken by full-time personnel. An average of eight volunteers <br />respond during weekday hours. Weeknight and weekend response averages between <br />15 and-20 personnel. The fire department has no difficulty attracting or retaining <br />personnel. The Fire Chief is selected by an elected Board of Directors. In addition to <br />the Fire Chief, the department's leadership team includes one Deputy Fire Chief, two <br />Assistant Fire Chiefs, six Captains (two- -are full-time employees), and three <br />Lieutenants. One Captain serves in the capacity of safety officer. Department personnel -meet the annual training standards <br />required by the State of North Carolina. Two firefighters are certified at the EMT - <br />Paramedic level; eight firefighters are certified at the EMT -Basic level; the balance of <br />the department's members are certified as Medical First Responders (MFRs). <br />In 2009, the department responded to 387 requests for emergency services. <br />Emergency medical calls account for approximately 56 percent of the department's <br />responses.
