ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDR ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: August 23; 2011 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ,~~- rY1 <br />SUBJECT: Ratification of Manager-Approved Agreement <br />DEPARTMENT: Manager's Office PUBL~iC HEARHVG: (YtN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Frank Clifton, County -Manager, (919 <br />2.45-2-306 <br />John Roberts, County Attorney, (919j- <br />245=23-18 <br />PURPOSE: To ratify a grant agreement approved by the Manager over the summer break. <br />BACKGROUNfl: The Board of Commissioners has delegated approval and signature authority <br />for agreements, contracts and grants to the County Manager in amounts up to $250,000 for <br />construction contracts and up to $90,000 for general-contracts and agreements. However, the <br />Beard of Commissioners -has determined that only the Board may approve and sign <br />agreements, contracts and- grants with other governmental entities regardless of amount. <br />During the Board of Commissioners' summer break, the 201-1 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant <br />("JAG") program award to Orange County and the Town of Chapel Hill in the amount of $15,122 <br />approached approval. deadlines. With the Board of Commissioners unavailable,. the Manager, <br />after consulting with the County Attorney, approved and signed the grant agreement. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The full amount of the JAG is $1.5,122. Of this amount, $6,048 is to be <br />allocated to Orange County. The remainder,. $9,074, will be allocated to the Town of Chapel <br />Hill. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board ratify the Manager's <br />approval of the JAG. <br />
