NOW, THEREFORE, we the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim the week of <br />April 22-28, 2001 as Orange County Government Week, and further encourage all citizens to become <br />familiar with the services provided by Orange County Government. <br />This, the third day of April 2001. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />d. Civil Rights Awareness Week Proclamation <br />The Board considered proclaiming the week of April 23-27 as Civil Rights Awareness Week. <br />Human Rights and Relations Director Annette Moore said that on April 23-27, the County with <br />other counties will host the Southeast Regional Civil Rights Summit. The theme for the summit is "A <br />Commitment to Fairness, The Path to Equality." <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to approve <br />and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation as stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />CIVIL RIGHTS AWARENESS WEEK <br />APRIL 23 - 27, 2001 <br />WHEREAS, on April 23 -27, 2001, the Orange County Department of Human Rights and Relations will <br />host the Southeast Regional Civil Rights Summit in the Sheraton Hotel in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners have shown their commitment of housing, <br />employment, public accommodations and bias crimes; and <br />WHEREAS, this Summit is committed to educating and informing human and civil rights workers and <br />advocates, attorneys, elected officials, members of federal, state and local agencies; and organizations <br />and individuals interested in promoting diversity and ending discriminatory practices; and <br />WHEREAS, the theme of the Summit "A Commitment to Fairness: The Path to Equality," exemplifies <br />the commitment of Orange County and its citizens to all of its citizens without regard to race, color, sex, <br />national origin, age, handicap, religion, sexual orientation, familial status or veterans status; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE DO WE the Orange County Board of Commissioners proclaim the week of April 23- <br />27, 2001 as Civil Rights Awareness Week and commend this observance to all Orange County citizens. <br />This, the 3rd Day of April 2001. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Commissioner Jacobs pointed out that there were people in Orange County who are residents and <br />not citizens. He asked that "residents" be included in the proclamations. <br />e.
