Ti'laereas•, Over t1~e past SO years, the United States has achieved significant increases in life <br />expectanc}% and reductions in the incidence of injarr~}%, disability and disease, <br />Whereas, Of the 50 additional years of life expectancy we have gained .since the turn of the century, <br />the public health approach is credited with the nrajority>-approximately 25 years-of our <br />improvements in our' health status and expar2ded life expectancy, <br />Whereas, Promoting the health and well-being oj'all residents of Orange County is paramount; and <br />Whereas, Controlling and eliminating communicable diseases are necessary to ensure that our <br />communities• are healthy places in which to live; and <br />Whereas, Protecting residents by safeguarding water and food supplies and monitoring waste <br />discharge systems is critical for° environmental and personal health; and <br />Whereas, Encouraging healthy lifestyle behaviors assures optimal quality of life and improved <br />health status; and <br />Whereas, Ensuring the optimal growth and development for all Orange County children is vital for <br />the future of our communities; and <br />Whereas, Public Health contributes to the prosperity of Orange County residents by promoting <br />health, preventing disease, and pr°otecting the environment, everyday, every where, and for <br />everybody regardless of religious, ethnic or socioeconomic background; <br />Whereas Public Health :Month provides t1~e focused opportunit}% for the public crud public health <br />professionals to celebrate collaborative of orts that have led to community health successes <br />and forge new partnerships to battle emerging threats; and <br />Whereas Public Health Month provides an opportunity to highlight and commend the efforts of <br />public health professionals to protect, promote and enhance the health of all residents <br />acras,s Orange County; and <br />Therefore, TYe hereby proclaim April 2l1(?I as PUBLIC HEALTH Il~ONTH in Orange County. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />b. Resolution of Annreciation for Oranae County Volunteers Servina on Advisory Boards <br />and Commissions <br />The Board considered a resolution of appreciation for volunteers serving an Orange County <br />advisory boards and commissions. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br />approve and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution as stated below: <br />RESOLUTION <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION <br />IN <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />tNhereas, the 28th annual National Volunteer Week, April 22-28, will be held to recognize and celebrate <br />the efforts of volunteers at the local, state and national levels; and <br />Whereas, thousands of volunteers give of their time, energy and expertise to Orange County and other <br />organizations to provide needed services to county residents; and, <br />
