D. Smith <br />Arthur Werner <br />Mayor Wallace was absent,- e-xcused. Also present were Town <br />. Mena-ger- David-R-~ Tay_Ior; ~: Assistant Town- -Manager-s Sonny 3~o~ewentha3 <br />and -Ron Secrist, and ~'owa Attoraey .Ralph- Karp3nos._ <br />Sotel/Motel Tax <br />Manager- Taylor said that the General Assembly had completed <br />action on June_22 on the Iocal bill enabli-ng the Town to adopt a <br />3$ taoc an hotel and motel charges. He said the tax would apply <br />to hotel/motel room charge-s which were subject to sales tax, aid <br />that the Town expected the tax to provide about $200,0-OU <br />annually. Mr. Taylor stated that the local act required that 10$ <br />o~ the hotel/motel tax -revenues be used-for visitor information <br />purposes and support of cultural eveats~ He said he recommended <br />that the Council adopt an ordinance to put the tax into effect on <br />July 1, in accord with the-adopted budget. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER PASQUINI MCNEI7, SECONDED BY COUNCIL MEMBER SMITH <br />TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 87-6-23/O-1. THE MOTTON PASSED UNAN~EMOtISLY, <br />t8-0) . <br />The ordinance, as adopted, reads as follows: <br />AN ORDINANCE TO IMPOSE A TRANS-TENT OCCUPANCY TAX IN THE TOWN OF <br />CHAPEL HILL (87-6-22-/0-1) <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill as fol- <br />lows: <br />SECTION I <br />Chapter 19 of the Code of the Town of Chapel Hill is hereby <br />amended by adding the following: <br />"Article 1.
