Margaret Lene <br />PO Box 8181 <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />Dear Mr. Harvey, <br />ATTACHMENT 5 38 <br />The following -are our -responses to the various issues/concerns expressed -by the <br />general public at the public hearing held on May 24, 2D1 r regarding -the planned <br />Montessori school relocation to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation church located <br />at the corner of Lawrence Road and Old NC 10 in Hjllsborough: <br />1. Comment: The addition of -the school-will incr-ease the total level of activity occurring <br />on the church-property. We are concerned about the potential impacts from a noise, <br />trash, and congestion perspective. <br />Answer: Fewer children -will be present during school than when church is in <br />session. Trash will continue to be carried away daily and recycling will be <br />accomplished on-site and picked up by Orange -Counfy. Traffic -will be significantly <br />less during school than when church services are held <br />2. Comment: There needs to be additional thought with. respect to the necessary safety <br />measures that have to be employed to ensure the protection of the children attending <br />the school. <br />Answer: Children will be dropped off at the door, which will be aftended by the <br />teaching staff. Student to teaching staff ratio will be 6:1 at the most, and students will <br />be supervised at all times by staff. <br />3. Comment: Why was the school being relocated? <br />Answer: The Abundant Life Church located on Highway 70 in the Town of <br />Hillsborough houses a Montessori school. Due to budgetary constraints, the school <br />decided to eliminate the 6 to 12 year old student program. The staff, wanting <br />continuity of the student population, sought relocation of this part of the Montessori <br />school, specifically to the Unitarian properly. <br />4. Comment: Will the existing septic system on the Unitarian church property be <br />sufficient to support the proposed school? <br />Answer: According to Orange County Environmental Health, the existing septic <br />system field capacity will have to be increased to accommodate the proposed school <br />
