TOWN OF CARRBORO <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br />WWW.TOWNOFCARRBORO.ORG <br />The following resolution was introduced by Alderman John Herrera and seconded by Alderman <br />Diana McDuffee. <br />A RESOLUTION ADOPTING <br />THE ADEQUATE PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br />AND THE ADDENDUM TO THE SCHOOLS <br />ADEQUATE PUBLIC FACILITIES MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br />Resolution No. 199/2002-03 <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Carrboro, through its representation on the Orange County Schools <br />and Land Use Council, has been working cooperatively with the Town of Chapel Hill, the Town <br />of Hillsborough, Orange County, the Chapel HilUCarrboro School District and the Orange <br />County School District to create a policy and an ordinance that will promote a balance among <br />anticipated student enrollment and school capacity; <br />WHEREAS, adequate schools support the high quality of education that serves as a linchpin to <br />the quality of life throughout Orange County; <br />WHEREAS, the Attorneys/Planning Directors/School Administrators (APS) Work Group as <br />requested by the Orange County Schools and Land Use Council, worked over the past several <br />years to develop an Adequate Public School Facilities Memorandum of Understanding and <br />Ordinance; <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Schools and Land Use Council has unanimously recommended <br />approval of an Adequate Public School Facilities Memorandum of Understanding and model <br />Ordinance; <br />WHEREAS, school membership within the high school level in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City <br />School District for the 2004-2005 school year is projected to exceed 110% of building capacity; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the third high school in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School <br />District will be completed and high school students will begin attending this school when the <br />2006-2007 school year begins; and <br />WHEREAS, the Addendum to the MOU allows the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District to <br />issue CAPS without regard to the 110% capacity limitation until high school students begin <br />attending high school number three. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Carrboro Board of Aldermen that: <br />301 WEST MAIN STREET, CARRBORO, NC 27510 (919) 942-8541 • FAX (919) 918-4456 • TDD (800) 826-7653 <br />AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PROVIDER <br />
