Addendum Two <br />CENTER FOR EMPLOYMENT TRAINING (CET) -DURHAM, NC <br />CET is a private, non-profit, community-based, accredited job skills training <br />and placement program. It is based on a 35 yeaz old model founded in San <br />Jose, CA. <br />Our mission is based on the philosophy ofself-determination and seeks to <br />promote the human development and education oflow-income people by providing <br />them with marketable vocational educational training and supportive services <br />that contribute to economic self-sufficiency. <br />CET's design is holistic, accessible, contextual, hands-on, integrated, <br />self-paced, individualized, open-entry/exit, job oriented, intensive, and <br />competency based. <br />CET has been operating in Durham County since June 1995. We are now located <br />in Northeast Central Durham at the Golden Belt facility. <br />CET has trained, graduated and placed into good jobs aver 700 students in the <br />past 7 'lz years. This helps the students, their families, their employers, <br />and their communities. <br />Students have graduated from certificate courses in Medical Clerical; Office <br />Skills; Electronics; HVAC; and Shipping & Receiving. <br />Our students have been: 78% aged 22 - 44; 43% high school drop out; 86% <br />black; 85% single with dependent(s); 89% unemployed; 75% TANF/Work First <br />participants; 88% female; 50% with reading/math skills below 8th grade. <br />CET has maintained an 80+% Placement Rate since 1995. The present Avg. <br />Placement Wage for our graduates is $9.70 per hour. <br />CET -Durham, NC received the maximum 6 year term of accreditation from the <br />Association of Schools & Colleges in 1999. <br />CET received the Governor's (Hunt) Work First Business Council's Award for <br />Outstanding Non-profit [statewide] in 2000. <br />In 1997, The UNC-Chapel Hill Jordan Institute for Families deemed CET <br />services "the most likely to lead to self-sufficiency". <br />CET has been an appointed member of the Durham Workforce Development Board <br />since 1999. We are also represented on the Durham Youth Council. <br />In 2000, the NC Center for Public Policy Research found that CET -Durham had <br />the highest rate of success and effectiveness of all training programs <br />studied state-wide. <br />
