Planned Activities <br />TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM <br />JULY 1, 2003 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2004 <br />The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has informed us that the <br />Town of Chapel Hill will receive $728,250 of Community Development funds in fiscal <br />year 2003-2004. <br />Priority: Provide rehabilitation assistance for very low- and low-income <br />homeowners and rental housing serving very low and low-income <br />tenants. <br />Public Housing Activities <br />1. Renovation of Airport Gardens <br />Approximately, $165,000 of Community Development funds will be budgeted for <br />the rehabilitation of twenty-six units at the Airport Gardens public housing <br />community. Proposed renovation work would include the abatement of lead- <br />based paint and asbestos, replacement of windows and screens, replacement of <br />interior and exterior doors, replacement of furnaces, replacement of floor tiles, <br />replacement of bathtub liners and surrounds, bathroom fixtures, plumbing and <br />electrical upgrades, and interior and exterior painting. <br />2. Refurbishing Program <br />Additionally, approximately $50,000 of Community Development funds will be <br />allocated to continue the public housing refurbishing program. This program <br />includes minor repairs of public housing units. <br />3. Installation and Repair of Playground Equipment <br />Approximately $6,000 of Community Development funds will be used to repair <br />and replace playground equipment at various public housing sites. <br />This activity is located in an existing public housing community which is in an area of <br />both low/moderate and minority concentration. This is a continuation of the Town's <br />efforts to renovate existing public housing communities. <br />Anticipated Beneficiaries: 50 households earning less than 80% of the median <br />income <br />Accomplishments: 50 renovated public housing apartments <br />Anticipated Completion Date: September 30, 2004 <br />$221,000 <br />
