Kathy Gunn is from Carrboro and lives at 212 Hillsborough Road next to the
proposed southwest library. She said that she had asked the Carrboro Board of
Aldermen last week not to rezone this property, but it was rezoned anyway. She asked
the County Commissioners to please work with the Town of Carrboro to seek alternate
sites for the southwest library. She said that her neighborhood has become an innocent
victim of politics and is not an appropriate place for a library.
Robert Dow lives in Carrboro and said that he had concerns about the siting of
this southwest library. He said that there should be publicly accessible information about
this. He said that there was no public input prior to the rezoning hearing. He said that
this library would bring significant traffic to Hillsborough Road.
Sam Gharbo lives in Efland. He said that the elected officials are here to serve
the residents, protect them, provide for them, inspire them, prevail for them, lead them,
persuade them, listen to them, and do right by them. He said that it was stunning to see
how often the County Commissioners do not get it. He said to Commissioner Foushee
that he wished he had been there at the last meeting because she got it and had that
"aha" moment. He said that she did exactly what her purpose at that meeting. He said
that he moved to Orange County and was forced to become involved in an issue that
should not have been an issue. He said that this body over the past two years has
made him look at how it functions or not, interacts with the public or not, how it listens or
not, and how it is inconsistent and disingenuous when dealing with matters. He hopes
that there will be change for the future.
b.
