From: Bob Marotto
Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2011 11:27 AM
To: Donna Baker
Cc: 'Kristine Bergstrand'; Suzanne Roy; Paula Ragan
Subject: Animal Services: Another ASAB Member Recommendations
Donna Baker
Orange County Clerk
Donna,
At its meefing last night, the Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB)
unanimously decided to recommend that the BOCC appoint Michael
Stewart to the at large position thaf will be vacated by Dan Textoris at fhe
end of June as a result of term limits.
The ASAB is making this recommendation based upon its ongoing effort to
facilitate the BOCC appointment process. As previously mentioned, the
ASAB has reviewed all available applications. The ASAB has also meet
with interested applicants who wished to introduce themselves and to learn
more about the operation and scope of service of the ASAB.
The ASAB is unanimously recommending Mr. Stewart for a variety of
reasons. One is his very strong and apparent interest in animal welfare
which he would like to marry to the ASAB and its affairs. Another is his
familiarity with the use of animals for social benefits as in the case of
therapy dogs he has trained and brough# to different institutions. Yet
another reason is that he and his wife posses not only companion animals
but horses and fowl which they keep on their place in rural Orange County.
I hope tha_f you are able to add this recommendation to the ones that 1
previously sent. The ASAB and staff are hopeful that the BOCC will be able
to consider these recommendations before going into its summer recess.
Note that the ASAB will still need to make a recommendation for the
replacement of Jean Austen in the position for an animal welfare
administrator and also that the Hillsborough position remains vacant.
Please /et me know if you need additional information.
Bob Marotto
Animal Services Director
