All of our internal boards and
commissions represent the Orange County .Board of County Commissioners. The
purpose of the Board's review was to see how your board's work plan had helped
advance the Commissioners' goals and priorities..
A couple of issues that were discussed in general by the Board in reference to advisory
boards are that if an advisory board advocates for a particular issue, such as a
legislative issue, or if an advisory board wants to do a 'survey" on a particular topic with
the public, then the advisory board needs to present these issues to the County
Commissioners prior to submission so that the Commissioners may be aware of this and
provide any input or direction as needed.
The Board wanted to commend the Advisory Board on Aging's list of extensive
accomplishments including being a recipient of the Ernest Messer Award that the NC
Division of Aging and Adult Services Awards, which is presented each year to
individuals or organizations that make a significant difference in the quality of life for
older adults in North Carolina.
We look forward to seeing your accomplishments for this next year in your next
summary report. Please share this information with your full board.
Sincerely,
Bernadette Pelissier, Chair
Orange County Board of Commissioners
Cc: Janice Tyler, Director, Department on Aging.
www.co.orange.nc.us
Protecting and preserving — People, Resources, .Quality of Life
Orange County, North Carolina — You Count!
(999) 245 -2130 • FAX (999) 644 -0246
