224
Memorandum
TO: Michael Harvey, Current Planning Supervisor
FROM: Kevin Lindley, P, Staff Engineer
DATE; May 13, 2011
FEE* Schoolhouse Road Habitat Subdivision Sewer
This is a quick memo to discuss the ability of the existing sorer system ire Efland to handle the
additional flow ro' ct d from the proposed Habitat for Humanity Subdivision on Schoolhouse
Road. The existing McGowan Creek pump station off of Eland -Cedar Grove Road, to which
the satire system's wastewater flows, can comfortably handle an average daily flow of 300,000
gallons per day (GP D). The current average daily low from the existing 225 customers of the
(land sewer system is between 35,000 and 40,000 GPD, or less than 15% of the capacity of
the pump station. The wastewater is pumped to the Town of Hillsborough's wastewater
collection system, where it flows by gravity to the Town's wastewater treatment facility.
Orange County has a utility connection agreement with the Town of Hillsborough t receive an
average of to 380,000 GP . The current flow is roughly 0% of our allotted capacity with
the Town of Hillsborough.
Based on the proposed 28 residences in the Habitat for Humanity subdivision, the wastewater
flow to the Efland system can be estimated to increase by an average of p ro i ately 6,000
GILD. This is based on the current average population in the area of 2.64 people per
household, which I've rounded up to 3 people per household. An acceptably conservative
estimate of wastewater* usage is 70 GPD per capita. This results in an average of 210 GP
per hous6hold, or a total of slightly less than 6000 GP D. This amount represents
approximately 2% of the current system capacity and can easily be accommodated by the
existing infrastructure.
One rote of disclaimer: this analysis is with regards to projected flow only and the capacities of
the existing lnfras ru t re. This memo should in no way he construed as approval of the
subdivision plan or any planned utility Infrastructure extensions to serve this subdivision, which
are st111 under rein,
