193 <br />Efland Biological Inventory <br />Orange County, North Carolina <br />August 2008 <br />Project Description and Purpose <br />The Catena Group, Inc. TCG was contracted by Bob Barrett to conduct a biological <br />inventory a part of the special use p ormit application for r development site at <br />theintersection of Schoolhouse Road (SR# t314) and Tinnin Road (SR# 1313), Orange <br />County, NC. This property is comprised ofti-wee r l ro rt y Identification Number <br />(PIN) numbers 9845-40-5243, 9844-49-3706, and 9845-40-5022), totalingapproximately <br />2 acres Figure 1). <br />The purpose of this i nvestigation is to conduct a basic flora and fauna inve torfir, with an <br />emphasis on prot eted species and rare or significant natural habitats, This iavemtory <br />provides a qualitative mference, or baseline, on general abundance, distribution, and <br />a itat association for flora and fatina species occurring on the property. <br />2.0 Methodologies <br />mapping resources used in this inv stigati n include the post recent GSGS ' . - 1- ninute <br />topographic uadrangle ina (Figure and 2003 Orange County digital <br />orthopliotogra hs (Figure 2). The parce.1s were foeated via Orange County Parcel Data to <br />determine the property boundaries, which were overlaid onto the above maps. <br />. <br />2, 1 Pre- 'e /c In v estiga tio n Da 14 b as Seal *ch <br />Prior to eondueting the field surveys, TCG reviewed the North Carol ina NaturaI Heritage <br />Program (NHP) systematic inventory (database) of rare plant and animal species, th <br />North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) database, and the LAS Fish and <br />Wildlife Service database for any previous surveys and/or known rare species within the <br />project area# A list of threatened, endangered and rare species, as well as significan <br />natural communities l o ii in range County is included its Appendix I. <br />2.2 Fletilluvestigation <br />TCG conducted the field investigation on July 31 and August 6, 2008, under hot and <br />sunny conditions* Floral (plant) conimunitie , rare, species habitat, and significant fauna <br />(wildlife) observations were identified and notable features were surveyed via satellite <br />LIShIg 4 hand -held G S unit (sub- incter accuracy). <br />Plant surveys ivere conducted during the field investigation. Natural plant comalunity <br />classifications follow those presented by eha ale and Oval le (1990) whenever <br />possible.
